Man Utd's move for Jarrad Branthwaite hits stumbling block as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's doubts over signing Everton star are revealed

United made the 21-year-old England international their primary defensive transfer target in the upcoming summer window, however, talkSPORT reports that the club could now consider pulling out of the move as they consider Everton's asking price for the player extremely high.

The report claims that the Toffees are demanding a fee in the region of £70m (€83m/$89m) which the Red Devils' new co-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group are unlikely to match. It is believed that Ratcliffe is against continuing the club's old tradition of overpaying in the transfer market.

Other than Branthwaite, the Manchester-based club have also included Nice and France defender Jean-Clair Todibo in their shortlist. They reportedly held talks with Tosin Adarabioyo's representatives before he completed a free transfer to Chelsea.

Erik ten Hag's side will be back in action towards the end of July as the English giants are all set to travel to the US for pre-season. They are scheduled to face teams like Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Betis in America.
