Man Utd get major injury boost! Lisandro Martinez targets return against Brentford as he exits Argentina's squad early

The centre-back was called up to Lionel Scaloni's squad to face El Salvador and Costa Rica this month despite missing the last six weeks with a knee injury. However, the Daily Mail reports the 26-year-old, who has trained with the Argentine squad this week, is set to return to England on Saturday so he can prepare fully for United's clash with Brentford on March 30.

The influential defender was one of the Red Devils' best players last season but a number of injures have limited his game time over the past year. Therefore, if the former Ajax star can return to action soon, it could lead to an upturn in fortunes for Erik ten Hag's men as they aim to finish in the top four and win the FA Cup.

The report adds Martinez, who joined from Ajax in 2022 for an initial £47 million ($59.8m), will step up training at United's Carrington base over the coming week. The Red Devils initially allowed Martinez to link up with the World Cup winners to give him a boost in his recovery efforts.

While Argentine defender Martinez will miss Argentina's friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica over the next week, United take on Brentford at the end of the month, followed by an away trip to Chelsea on April 4.
