Man Utd handed huge blow in hunt to bring in Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton to solve defensive problems

Man Utd's hunt for defensive stability after the departure of Raphael Varane from their ranks has led them to the Everton defender. However, as per The Independent, the Toffees hold a similar value for Branthwaite as Leicester City did for Harry Maguire in 2019 (£80m).

As per ESPN, Branthwaite is valued at around £75 million ($95m) by Everton and the valuation could be off-putting for United. They are reported to be operating on 'tight' finances despite them having engineered significant departures of high-earning players over the last two years.

Branthwaite's high value comes due to his young age, his high demand coming into the transfer window and his current contract with Everton lasting until 2027. He is also a homegrown player.

The 21-year-old centre-back will now head off to training with Gareth Southgate's England as he hopes to be a starting defender going to Germany for the Euros.
