Man Utd make crunch decision on Alejandro Garnacho after receiving Paris Olympics request from Argentina

Manchester United have reportedly turned down Argentina's request to release Alejandro Garnacho for this summer's Olympic Games. TyC Sports claim that the club have dug their heels in and will not allow the winger to link up with Javier Mascherano's U23s team that is set for Paris this summer.

This summer's Olympic tournament will take place between July 24 and August 10 and while it is a FIFA-recognised competition, clubs have the final say over whether they release a player. Had he gone, Garnacho would have missed the club's pre-season tour and potentially would have returned to Old Trafford with less than a week to go before the start of the 2024/25 season.

The 19-year-old made 50 appearances for Manchester United in what has been a breakthrough season for the player. He has also been named in Argentina's Copa America squad this summer, so it is no surprise that the Red Devils are looking to regulate the teenager's minutes over the coming weeks.

Garnacho will link up with Lionel Scaloni's Argentina squad for this summer's Copa America tournament later this month as part of a star-studded frontline for the holders. The tournament takes place in the United States and runs from June 20 to July 14, with Garnacho hoping to add to his five senior caps.
