  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Miedema was on target for the Netherlands in a 3-1 Nations League victory against Austria on Tuesday after coming on as a substitute but did not finish the match as she had to be replaced with an injury. The Dutch star is now expected to miss the rest of the season which will be a massive blow to Nick Cushing's side.

  • WHAT NICK CUSHING SAID

Cushing told reporters: "We’ve lost Viv and that’s something the medical team are ongoing with. She’s positive but it’s not looking good in the sense of being able to imminently impact any of our games. It’s hugely disappointing for Viv because of the role she’s played on the pitch and for me personally because she’s been so pivotal in the results I’ve got with this team. She’s played a huge role in dragging this team up and she’s done the same today in the meeting room and on the training pitch. She’s positive and concentrating on rehab now, and we’ll give her all the support she needs to be back out there as quick as possible.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Miedema joined City on a free transfer from Arsenal last summer and made her long-awaited return from an ACL injury in November. The 28-year-old has been in great form in 2025, scoring eight goals in 10 games for City, but now faces more time on the sidelines. She joins top scorer Bunny Shaw, Lauren Hemp, Alex Greenwood and Aoba Fujino on a lengthy injury list at the club.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAN CITY

Manchester City will hope to book a spot in the FA Cup final on Sunday by beating Manchester United but will have to do so without a host of key players including Miedema. The winners of the tie will play either Chelsea or Liverpool in the final.
