Man City enter Joan Garcia race! Goalkeeper targeted by Arsenal and Barcelona also wanted by Pep Guardiola's side amid Ederson exit rumours

Garcia has been in top form this season for Espanyol, as the goalkeeper has played a major part in the Catalan side avoiding relegation to the Segunda. As such, Arsenal, Barcelona and Newcastle United have been fighting to sign the goalkeeper this summer, with his €25 million (£21m/$28.3m) release clause available until the last week of the summer transfer window.

Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo (h/t SportsWitness) has now reported that Manchester City have now entered the race to sign Garcia this summer. Guardiola is said to have had enough of injury-prone Ederson being the first-team starter in between the posts. The eight-time Premier League champions are also said to be interested in FC Porto's Diogo Costa.

During the 2024–25 season, Garcia has made more saves (146) and stopped more goals (+8.5) than any other goalie in La Liga, according to OptaJose.

Sources close to Garcia continue to indicate that Barcelona are currently the closest side to sign the goalkeeper. However, City could pull off a surprise move, if Premier League is Garcia's preferred destination.
