Luis Diaz and Alisson travel to Portugal for seventh-day mass in memory of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva after missing Liverpool star's funeral

Diaz and Alisson were among the mourners at the seventh-day mass held in memory of Jota and Silva in Gondomar on Wednesday, as reported by Portuguese outlet O Jogo. The Liverpool pair did not attend Jota's funeral with the rest of the Liverpool squad but have now paid their respect in their late team-mate's home town.

The two Liverpool stars have been criticised for not attending Jota’s funeral, particularly after Diaz posted videos celebrating with friends. Alisson cited the emotional strain and distance that also kept him from his father’s funeral in 2021. Their attendance at the mass could now soften public opinion, with many appreciating the gesture of support.

The seventh-day mass in Gondomar drew a large crowd, including football figures like Diogo Costa, Joao Mario, Jorge Mendes, and representatives from the Portuguese national team. Around 100 members of the public also gathered at the church for one final tribute for Jota and Silva.

Liverpool’s pre-season preparations are now underway, with Diaz already back at the AXA Training Centre. Alisson’s involvement remains uncertain, though goalkeepers often report separately from the main squad. The Reds continue to mourn the loss of a beloved teammate as the pre-season begins with a fixture against Preston.
