  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Grealish recently became a father, welcoming his first child, Mila Rose, with his partner Sasha Attwood. The Manchester City star is now embracing the challenges of fatherhood but believes Carsley has a more difficult job at hand of selecting the England starting XI given the talent at his disposal.

    WHAT GREALISH SAID

Speaking to the media, Grealish made a light-hearted comparison between his struggles as a new dad and that of Carsley. "Yeah, I think he'll have a lot more [sleepless nights] I reckon with the players he's got to pick from!" Grealish joked when asked who might struggle more with their new responsibilities.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Grealish described missing out on Euro 2024 as "probably the most difficult period of my life" he revealed that the arrival of his daughter had been an uplifting experience and went to share the details of the whirlwind 24 hours that led up to her birth.

"It was an unbelievable day," Grealish recalled. "Actually Sasha had a scan on the Friday morning and then she realised she was going to come a few weeks early, so I had to leave training on the Friday. It was the best moment of my life, as you can imagine. I don't really know how to explain it. You feel so many good moments in your life, but that just tops everything.

"I got the train to London and then it happened on Friday afternoon. I stayed there obviously for two or three hours, and then I had to get a plane all the way to Newcastle. I arrived at probably gone midnight at the hotel and, yeah, I was playing the next morning at 12.30pm at Newcastle away. It was an unbelievable 24 hours.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR GREALISH?

For Grealish, the highs of becoming a father have coincided with a revival in his international career. After being left out of Gareth Southgate's squad for Euro 2024, Carsley has afforded Grealish a new opportunity to prove himself on the international stage. After scoring in England’s 2-0 victory over the Republic of Ireland during the September international break, he would look to repeat his heroics when the Three Lions take on Greece and Finland this week.
