Las Vegas Part II for Wrexham? ‘Pointless’ promotion statement made by James Jones after seeing Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney fund one trip to Sin City

The Dragons headed to Nevada over the summer after bringing a 15-year absence from the Football League to a close. On the back of a record-setting push out of the National League, club co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney rewarded the players in North Wales with an all-expenses-paid visit to Sin City.

A number of fresh faces have joined since then, while Jones – who has signed a new contract this season – is looking to wrap up back-to-back promotions. He has said of the ultimate goals at SToK Racecourse: “I will keep working hard and keep pushing for another promotion. That's what we are here to do, that is the aim. It is a tough league to get out of, it is competitive and anyone can beat anyone. It is not going to be a piece of cake but everyone knows what we are trying to do. It would be pointless to say promotion is not the aim, and that is what you want to be a part of as a player. You want to be playing in important games and trying to push for promotions. Everyone buys into that so it is down to us to produce that.”

Phil Parkinson is working with a talented squad at Wrexham, with Jones hoping that fierce competition for places will keep everybody on their toes and collective standards high. He added: "We have got a fantastic squad. The strength in depth we have got is ridiculous. I am sure it is tough for the gaffer to pick a team each week and it is up to us to keep making it tough for him because you know there is someone waiting for the shirt. Everyone wants to be playing, whether that is the league or the cup."

Wrexham sit seventh in the League Two table at present, just inside the play-off places, and will be back in action on Saturday when playing host to the Salford City side that is co-owned by Manchester United ‘Class of ‘92’ legends Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and David Beckham.
