'He's the Kylian Mbappe we all know!' - La Liga president hits out at Spanish media for 'killing' Real Madrid striker after his slow start at Santiago Bernabeu

Mbappe swapped Paris Saint-Germain for Madrid last summer but initially, the Frenchman did not hit the heights many expected of him. Now that he is scoring freely for Los Blancos, Tebas suggested the Spanish press owe the 26-year-old an apology for their treatment of him and now this is the "Mbappe we all know".

He said at the Madrid Sports Press Association (APDM) gala, via Marca: "I'm going to say what I was saying when you were all killing him, that you were saying 'Oh, how bad Mbappe is'. Many people said it. I said that this player has not forgotten how to play football and that he would give us great afternoons of glory for Real Madrid and Spanish football, and that's what he's been doing in recent games. He's the Kylian Mbappé that we all know. These players don't forget to play football."

Despite the vocal criticism that has come Mbappe's way, the France international has now scored 21 goals in 31 games in all competitions. And it seems the best may be yet to come from the forward, who has helped fire Madrid to the top of La Liga.

Mbappe is likely to lead Madrid's attack on Wednesday in their final Champions League group phase game away to Brest.
