'I've been through problems too' - Kylian Mbappe insists he has no hard feelings over PSG's Champions League triumph and claims he was right to leave for Real Madrid

Mbappe has broken his silence following Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League triumph, insisting he holds no hard feelings toward his former club as they clinched their maiden UCL title in the first season after the forward's departure to Real Madrid. The Frenchman also assured that he had no regrets joining Madrid last summer, claiming his time at Parc des Princes had come to an end.

PSG earned a dominant 5-0 victory in the final against Inter, which was the biggest win margin in the history of the competition in a final. Les Parisiens clinched the title in their first season without Mbappe, as Ousmane Dembele produced phenomenal displays that have made him the rightful prime candidate to lift this year's Ballon d'Or. While Mbappe failed to win the Champions League, La Liga, or Copa del Rey with Los Blancos, PSG completed a historic clean sweep of all trophies on offer. Despite the success of Luis Enrique's side, Mbappe stated that he had no hard feelings toward his former employers and that he was, in fact, happy with what they managed to achieve. In fact, the 26-year-old had also taken to social media to send a heartfelt congratulations to the French heavyweights.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Mbappe said (h/t ESPN): "I was happy, they deserved it, they've been through so many problems, I've been through that too. I've been through every stage of the Champions League except winning it. They were the best team in Europe. I can't remember ever seeing them go 5-0 up. It's 100% deserved, they're becoming the team everyone wants to beat.

"PSG won the Champions League without me, that doesn't affect me. That's a good thing. I think we all face challenges in our careers. I'm a bit more in the eye of the storm, which is good. I've always liked being in these positions, it's up to me to work. I've reversed quite a few trends in my career, I've had a lot of things stuck on my back and I've managed to get them off.

"Did I leave too soon? No, my story was over, it had to end. There was no bitterness, I'd reached the end of my tether."

After captaining France in their Nations League third-place encounter against Germany on Sunday, he will fly to the United States with Real Madrid to participate in the revamped Club World Cup, which begins on June 14. Madrid will play their first game on June 18 against Saudi heavyweights Al-Hilal.
