Jorginho nears Arsenal exit as talks begin with Flamengo - but midfielder needs Gunners' help to complete free transfer

Per Globo, Flamengo have opened talks with Arsenal over a deal to sign the Italy international. The Gunners midfielder has a deal until this summer and can sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January, but the Brazilian side are hopeful of securing his signature this month.

If Flamengo are to bring him in this month, Arsenal would have to agree to let him go for nothing, and the report states they are hopeful Jorginho's good relationship with the Gunners board will sway matters. If Arsenal say no, however, Flamengo will pursue other targets.

Jorginho has only made six starts for Arsenal in the Premier League this season. He is said to be encouraged by the idea of playing in Brazil for the first time in his career.

Arsenal play Tottenham in a major north London derby in midweek. It remains to be seen if the Italy star will be involved.
