'I'm actually floating' - Arsenal fans left in hysterics after 'snatching' Eberechi Eze from under noses of Tottenham in £68m deal as fans claim 'it's maybe one of the funniest things to happen ever'

It's a dark day for Tottenham fans. But pure joy if you're from the red half of north London after the Gunners hijacked their deal for attacking Crystal Palace ace Eze. Spurs had laboured over the deal and were miles out in front, in a one horse race. Until Wednesday afternoon. Arsenal trumped Spurs' offer, in size and payment structure, and sorted a deal in what appeared to be hours, whereas Tottenham had huffed and puffed for weeks. 

There's been a deluge of social media posts, including from PhilCosta, who said: "Nah I’m actually floating. Not only do I love Eze but snatching him away from Topspurs when it was a one-horse race is so funny. You could put every drug into my body and they wouldn’t hit like this."#

The Hawkster88 chimed in, perhaps summarising all Arsenal fans delight by saying: "It may be one of the funniest things to ever happen." 

And on the timing of the deal, Femooafc said: "Stealing Eze last second from Spurs hits so much harder than securing him early in the window I cannot lie." 

The memes came thick and fast too, DecksTalksBall delighted in saying: "He rejects Spurs to join the biggest club in London"' followed by a clip of Eze doing his trademark celebration after a goal. 

And Ez_419 shared a short clip of Kylian Mbappe wheeling away, with a massive smile on his face after a goal and the message: "Snatched Eze from the palm of their hands."

Tottenham had agreed the fee with Palace and terms with Eze, but nothing was signed as Palace wanted their player for the Europa Conference clash against Fredrikstad. Then Arsenal swooped in on Wednesday afternoon and tied up the deal in hours. 

It's sunshine and roses for Arsenal who have landed one of the best attacking talents in the Premier League and hugely embarrassed their local rivals all in one go. They will be gloating at the Emirates. For Tottenham and boss Thomas Frank the recriminations could last all season, unless they can land a suitable alternative No 10. And no doubt chairman Daniel Levy will face a deluge of criticism from Spurs fans. He is rather used to that.
