'We can beat anyone' - Harry Maguire issues defiant message as Man Utd prepare for crunch Aston Villa clash

United have not won any of their last four games in all competitions and have conceded six goals in their last two matches alone against Tottenham Hotspur and FC Porto. Their poor start to the new season has raised questions over the future of manager Erik ten Hag. With so much pressure mounting on the team as well as on the Dutch coach, United head to in-form Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ahead of facing Unai Emery's side, Maguire sent out a defiant message to try and inspire United. The defender came on as a substitute and scored a last-gasp equaliser to help the Red Devils hold FC Porto to a 3-3 draw in the midweek Europa League clash.

Speaking to reporters, Maguire said, "This is my sixth season now and I know what it's about. I know that you go through difficult moments and everything, everyone piles on you. We've proven over the last couple of seasons with the manager that we can beat anybody when we perform. But the problem has been consistency, and we need to start showing that."

When asked about the club's defensive woes, the 31-year-old added, "No, obviously it's not good enough. For sure, we've got to do more. But as a footballer, it's easy to look around and blame your team-mates, or blame the staff or the tactics. You've got to look at yourself. You've got to take responsibility and each and every one of us has got to do better in these moments."

Ten Hag's side will hope to end their winless streak on Sunday and pick up a win against Villa away from home in their final game before the October international break.
