    WHAT HAPPENED?

The German giants lost their second straight game in all competitions, following their 3-0 thrashing by Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga last weekend, with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Lazio on Wednesday in the last-16 of the Champions League. The England captain barely had any chances for the Bavarians, who had Dayot Upamecano sent off in the 67th minute and Ciro Immobile scored the resulting penalty. The 30-year-old was criticised by sections of the German media after the Leverkusen drubbing and now Italian publications have followed suit.

  • WHAT THE ITALIAN MEDIA SAID

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote the former Tottenham star didn't "exploit" his early chance against Lazio and usually doesn't make such mistakes. Corriere dello Sport believed that Bayern's number one threat had a "rather dull evening" and Lazio's defenders limited him as best they could. However, Tuttosport mused that Kane felt "abandoned" in the second half, with all three publications giving him a rating of 5.5, 6, and 5.5 out of 10, respectively.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Kane is breaking Bundesliga goalscoring records this season, with 28 goals and eight assists in 29 games in all competitions, there is a distinct possibility Bayern will end up with no trophies this term. They are five points behind leaders Leverkusen, fell in round two of the DFB-Pokal cup, and have to overturn a 1-0 deficit in the Champions League against Lazio. The England skipper came to the German giants to win silverware but at present that looks unlikely.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR KANE?

Kane's Bayern return to Bundesliga action away to Bochum on Sunday. They play RB Leipzig and Freiburg in the league before hosting Lazio in the second leg of their Champions League knockout clash on March 5.
