Goodbye Premier League! Former Man Utd goalkeeper David De Gea has his heart set on next destination after failing to secure January move

De Gea has been without a club since leaving Manchester United in the summer after his contract expired. Now, according to The Sun, the former Spanish international is hoping to find his way back to football via La Liga. Despite interest from the Premier League and across the world in recent months, De Gea wishes to continue in Spain where he has kept up his training regime.

De Gea began his career in Spain and now is set on finishing it back in his native country. The former United keeper joined from boyhood club Atletico in 2011 and would have returned to Madrid in 2015 if not for a faulty fax machine. Sought after by Real Madrid on many occasions, De Gea would snap up the chance to play in the Spanish capital once more.

De Gea won the Premier League Golden Glove last season and was still shown the exit door. It was only the second time the shot stopper won the award, the first time coming in the 2017-18 season.

De Gea remains a free agent and will likely remain unattached until at least next season. Although given the Spaniard’s pedigree, you’d be forgiven if you were surprised if he still cannot find a club this summer.
