Extra-time winner in cup final! Kai Rooney makes dad Wayne ‘proud’ after landing trophy for Man Utd with dramatic strike in seven-goal derby thriller with Man City

Rooney junior, who is now 15 years of age, has been causing quite a stir in the Red Devils’ famed academy system. Videos posted on social media have shown that he boasts the same finishing skills as his famous dad.

Wayne is United’s all-time leading goalscorer, with 253 efforts to his name, and is hoping to see his son follow in illustrious footsteps at Old Trafford. Positive progress continues to be made while heading down that path.

Kai has become a prolific presence at youth level, while silverware has been lifted on a regular basis. He has another honour to his name after inspiring United to victory in the U15 Premier League Floodlit Cup North competition.

The Red Devils edged out derby rivals Manchester City in a thrilling final. Having found themselves 3-0 down with 12 minutes to go, United turned the tie on its head to prevail 4-3 - with Rooney grabbing their winner.

Wayne has said of seeing his oldest child prove once again that he is a chip off the old block: “Proud of @kairooney.10. Great comeback from his team last night and an extra time winner always special. Keep working hard son.”

United have high hopes for Rooney and hope to see him become another academy graduate that goes on to become a senior superstar. He is some way off making that breakthrough for now, but has seemingly inherited match-winning genes.
