La Liga giants have been unable to put a long-term agreement in place with the teenage wonderkid as he is yet to turn 18 years of age. That landmark birthday will not be reached until July 2025, at which point the exciting forward will be able to commit to senior terms.

Barca face little threat of losing Yamal any time soon, thanks to the €1 billion (£834m/$1.1bn) clause in his current terms, but they are eager to ensure that the record-breaking youngster spends the peak years of his career in Catalunya.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have a verbal agreement in place with Yamal and his representatives that will see a new contract penned next summer. That deal will reportedly run until 2030, as the teenager lands a significant increase to his salary.

Yamal has stated on a regular basis that he intends to stick around at Barca, with there a desire on his part to become a “legend” – as he seeks to follow in the illustrious footsteps of fellow La Masia academy graduate Lionel Messi.
