  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    After United saw off FCSB 2-0 and Tottenham downed Elfsborg 3-0, both teams automatically qualified for the last-16 of the Europa League on Thursday night. Now, it has been revealed which teams, who have to duke it out in the play-offs, they could face following Friday's draw.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    United or Tottenham could face either AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad, or Galatasaray in a two-legged last-16 tie in early to mid-March. This is a competition both teams have a good chance of winning but these sides could provide stern opposition in the round of 16.

    After eight matches of the group stage, Lazio topped the table and United finished third with 18 points; while Spurs were a place and a point behind them in fourth. Incidentally, Sociedad came 13th, Galatasaray were 14th, AZ finished 19th and Midtjylland ended up in 20th. Play-off ties will be played on 13 and 20 February.
