  • Recently humiliated by Liverpool at Old Trafford
  • Ten Hag under pressure again
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Red Devils have struggled to get going in the new Premier League campaign, winning their opener against Fulham but then losing to both Brighton and Liverpool. The poor form comes after Erik ten Hag was handed a new two-year contract, and now the Dutchman has been warned by Premier League legend Alan Shearer that he must improve quickly if he wants to keep his job.

    WHAT SHEARER SAID

Speaking on behalf of Betfair, Shearer said: "United's results will have to improve massively for Ten Hag to still be at the club at Christmas. A lot will depend on their next two results. After the defeat to Brighton, and the manner of defeat to Liverpool, if the team doesn't see a massive improvement in the next game or two then it will be really, really difficult for him because the noise will only get louder."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Shearer went on to suggest that the club may have to consider selling Marcus Rashford, who has not looked up to the required standards required for over a year. The England international is still starting for Man Utd but with an abundance of young talent watching on from the bench, some tough decisions may have to be made if they are to improve under Ten Hag.

"Looking from the outside, for me, he should have left Man United to reignite his career because he's gone very static for whatever reason, and it hasn't worked for him for a while now," Shearer said.

    WHAT NEXT FOR TEN HAG?

Ten Hag has some time to work with his players during the international break, including Rashford - who was not called up for England. But when the Premier League returns, it is do-or-die for the former Ajax boss as the Red Devils face Southampton and Crystal Palace.
