Enzo Maresca fires Estevao Willian warning as Chelsea fans clamour to see £29m wonderkid in starting lineup

After the Crystal Palace draw, Estevao’s name quickly became a trending topic among Chelsea fans. His lively display off the bench sparked fresh calls for him to be involved from the first whistle against West Ham. While some supporters are eager to see the young Brazilian in action, Maresca is treading carefully.

“He is doing well, since he arrived with us,” Maresca told reporters. “Even in the training sessions. But, for me, he needs a path. He is very young, so we have to be careful. He can be an option for tomorrow from the start, for sure, after the Palace performance. But we will see also after [Friday’s training] session, and then we will decide.”

In addition to managing Estevao's development, Maresca was also quick to quash rumours surrounding another promising Brazilian talent, Andrey Santos. The 21-year-old midfielder had been the subject of interest from West Ham, with the Hammers reportedly prepared to bid up to £45 million ($60m) for his services. However, Maresca has made it clear that Santos is not on the market, either permanently or on loan.

“I’m very happy with Andrey,” Maresca said. “I’m very happy with Andrey staying here with us. He can play in Enzo’s position for sure, and he can play in Moises’ position for sure. He played one game in the Club World Cup against Palmeiras, where he was very good as a No. 6. The good thing is he can play in both positions very well.”

While fans are eager to see Estevao Willian shine, Maresca is determined to guide him carefully, ensuring that the teenager’s development is not rushed for immediate results. Meanwhile, Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from their frustrating draw against Crystal Palace when they face rivals West Ham this Friday.
