England star Angel Gomes picks up unwanted record after being sent off after just 40 minutes for Lille in Champions League against Sporting

    Shortly after Viktor Gyokeres gave the Portuguese side a 1-0 lead, England midfielder Gomes received a second yellow in the 40th minute in Lisbon. As a result, the former Manchester United youngster became the first player to be sent off in the Champions League this season.

    Lille went onto lose the game 2-0 as Zeno Debast doubled Sporting's lead in the 65th minute. The 24-year-old Gomes will now miss his side's next monster Champions League game against Real Madrid on October 2.
