Agony for Egypt as talisman Mohamed Salah is forced off with suspected hamstring injury during AFCON clash against Ghana - in what could be huge blow for Liverpool

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Salah went down off of the ball late in the first half of the Africa Cup of Nations match against Ghana. The forward walked off the field as he was quickly substituted and replaced by Mostafa Fathi. It is has not yet been confirmed what kind of injury Salah sustained, but The Athletic reports it could be a hamstring problem.

    Egypt suffered a double blow at the end of the half as a minute after Salah went off, Mohammed Kudus fired Ghana into the lead with an excellent shot from the edge of the box. Having drawn their first game of the competition against Mozambique, Egypt's hopes of progressing in the tournament have suffered a bit hit.

    If his injury proves severe, Salah may be ruled out for the rest of the competition and will likely head back to Liverpool to begin his recovery. Egypt, however, will be hoping to have him back fit for their final game of Group B against Cape Verde.

    The 31-year-old will have his injury checked and Egypt will decide if he is in any condition to feature against Cape Verde. Both the national team and Liverpool will be concerned about the prolific forward's fitness.
