'We're trying to sell the United dream!' - Man Utd staff FUME at Ruben Amorim over 'worst team in history' comment after dreadful start to life at Old Trafford

Amorim made the claim after his side were beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford, acknowledging his team must use that moment as a reference point to build from. However club insiders were angry with the comments, report Mail Sport, with one quoted as saying they were "not helpful".

Amorim's side are on track for their worst ever Premier League campaign, with 10 wins required from their final 13 matches to avoid their lowest ever points tally in the competition. They are still involved in the FA Cup and Europa League, but it looks set to be yet another undistinguished campaign.

The Mail Sport report quotes one member of the commercial team as saying: "We're trying to do deals and sell the United dream and he comes out with this. Not helpful."

When Amorim made his "worst team in the history of Manchester United" comment, he also expressed a determination to change it. His contract runs until the end of 2027 and he is likely to be given lots of time to improve his side's fortunes.
