lbcWHAT HAPPENED?
Reports surfaced that the International Football Association Board (IFAB) were going to trial plans where players would spend 10 minutes off the pitch after receiving a blue card for dissent and tactical fouls. IFAB quickly postponed this following criticism from FIFA and Spurs boss Postecoglou has also had his say on the matter.
GettyWHAT ANGE POSTECOGLOU SAID
He told reporters: "One team being down to 10 men for 10 minutes, you know what it’s going to do to our game? It’s going to destroy it, mate. You’re going to have one team just sitting there trying to waste time for 10 minutes waiting for a guy to come on. Learn more Every other sport is trying to declutter. All we’re trying to do is go the other way for some bizarre reason."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Postecoglou is not the only manager to be against these plans, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp saying it "didn't sound like a fantastic idea", and Newcastle manager Eddie Howe added he was "not a big fan". If ushered in, this would be a huge change in the game, right up there with when yellow and red cards were introduced at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
WHAT NEXT?
More information on what will follow on this matter is likely to take place at IFAB's annual meeting at Loch Lomond on March 2. It remains to be seen if the trials will still go ahead.
