  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Ex-Southampton defender Fonte revealed that it will be a dream come true for Portugal and Sporting CP if Ronaldo decides to end his career at his boyhood club. The 39-year-old superstar began his professional journey at Sporting in 2002 before moving to top European clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, where he established himself as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ronaldo, who turns 40 on Wednesday, is yet to pen a new Al-Nassr deal, with his existing contract expiring at the end of the 2024/25 season. Marca, however, reported last month that the Portugal icon will be offered a mega contract extension soon which could see him earn €550,000 (£457,000/$568,000) per day.

  • WHAT JOSE FONTE SAID

Fonte told BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League betting: "Make no mistake, for Portugal for Sporting and for all football fans in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo’s return would be the ultimate dream. He would elevate the league, bring in more money, bring in more investment, unfortunately, it’s not up to us.

"We would love to have him here. It's up to him. But who knows? Only he can answer that question. But for us here in Portugal, it would be an absolute dream to have someone like him return to Sporting and to Portugal. What a great story it would be."
