Cristiano Ronaldo vows to reach 1,000 career goals as Al-Nassr striker reveals age he could retire from football

Ronaldo discussed his future in a sit-down interview with former Manchester United team-mate Rio Ferdinand on his new YouTube channel. The 39-year-old knows retirement is not far away, but he has goals to accomplish before he's ready to hang up his boots.

Ronaldo could retire tomorrow and still be assured of a place among football's greats. But it speaks to the former Real Madrid star's mindset that he still has things that he wants to achieve. Ronaldo made it 899 career goals in Al-Nassr's 4-1 win against Saudi Pro League opponents Al-Fayha on Tuesday, and he has the big 1,000 in his sights.

"Soon I will do 900 [goals] and after I will beat 1,000. I want to reach 1,000 goals," Ronaldo declared.

When Ferdinand attempted to guess what age Ronaldo would be at that point, Ronaldo replied: "41? We don't know. If I don't have injuries, this is for me the most important. I want that. For me it's the best mark that I can have in football is to reach first 900 goals, after my challenge is to reach 1,000 goals. With one difference: all the goals that I score, they have videos, so I can prove it."

Ronaldo is likely to be included in Portugal's squad for next month's Nations League ties against Croatia and Scotland. Although the forward failed to score for his country in their underwhelming Euro 2024 campaign, Portugal boss Roberto Martinez has defended his decision to include him in the squad.
