Since Guardiola's arrival eight years ago, he has won 17 major trophies at the club, including the Champions League and six Premier League titles. If he were to leave, he would be an almost impossible act to follow, so keeping him for longer makes a huge amount of sense.

The report adds City will place 'no pressure' on the ex-Barcelona boss to sign a new contract and the decision will be his. It is understood he has discussed the matter with at least one key City player over dinner to get their thoughts and advice.

Guardiola's City side will look to end the season on yet another high when they take on bitter rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in a repeat of last year's showpiece event.
