Conor Gallagher latest: Diego Simeone offers Atletico Madrid transfer update with Chelsea midfielder stuck in limbo

Gallagher was very close to putting pen to paper on Atletico Madrid's contract offer last week - having travelled to Madrid - however, his deal did not go through after Samu Omorodion's move to Chelsea collapsed at the last moment. The English midfielder waited for five days in the Spanish capital before heading back to London and joining the Blues' pre-season.

Per the latest reports, Chelsea and Atletico are inching closer to an agreement for Joao Felix and if the Portuguese's transfer gets completed, Gallagher will be free to join the Spanish club. Amid the uncertainty over the England international's future, Los Rojiblancos boss Diego Simeone hinted that his club could still sign some more players before the window shuts.

Speaking to reporters, the Argentine said, "The squad is not closed yet, and we know what we’re looking for and what we want. Work is being done to finalize the squad."

The west London side are all set to play their first match of the new 2024-25 season on Sunday against Manchester City and it remains to be seen if Enzo Maresca will include the 24-year-old in his matchday squad.
