    WHAT POCHETTINO SAID

Speaking after the victory against Sheffield United, Pochettino revealed the reason why Nkunku was left on the bench throughout the clash, he said to BBC Sport: "We didn’t want to take a risk with him and give him more time for his recovery."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nkunku, who joined the Blues this summer in a deal worth £52 million ($65m), is yet to make a Premier League appearance for his new side, after suffering a knee injury during pre-season. Speaking prior to the game against Sheffield, Pochettino hinted that the player may be involved at Stamford Bridge, however the opportunity never materialised.

"It's a big motivation for us, for his team-mates, and the fans to see a player that should be important for us being in the squad for the first time," he said. "It's very good news for us and it's time to be calm and quiet because we don't want to put the pressure on him."
