  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Sanchez moved from Brighton to Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for a reported fee of £25 million ($32 million). Despite starting last season as the Blues' number one, he lost his place to Djordje Petrovic after an injury and failed to impress Mauricio Pochettino enough to reclaim his spot. Sanchez has been Enzo Maresca's first-choice goalkeeper this season, even though Chelsea signed Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal in the summer.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sanchez has had a difficult start to the season, making several blunders that have resulted in goals conceded by the Blues. He was mostly to blame for the two goals conceded against Brighton, and he also gave up a penalty in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday. Regardless, Maresca has insisted that he is quite pleased with Sanchez, and according to The Telegraph, Chelsea's top management shares the Italian's opinion.

  • WHAT'S MORE?

As per the Telegraph's sources close to Chelsea's top brass, Sanchez is believed to have all the ingredients to be one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and that his decision-making will eventually catch up with his talent. Additionally, the 26-year-old is still considered a youngster whose 'performances will continue to improve as he matures'.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SANCHEZ?

The Spaniard will continue in goal for Maresca at least for their next few matches as Chelsea look to dump their two-game winless streak. Sanchez will be in action next when they take on Armenian side Noah in the Conference League on Thursday, November 7.
