Bukayo Saka reveals why he gave Martin Odegaard first penalty in Arsenal's win over West Ham

Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard set the tone early, finding the net within the first 30 minutes and giving Mikel Arteta’s side a comfortable lead. Arsenal had a chance to extend their lead further when Bukayo Saka was fouled in the box by Lucas Paqueta. Despite being the team’s designated penalty-taker, Saka chose to hand the responsibility to captain Odegaard. The Norwegian midfielder stepped up confidently and converted from the spot, making it 3-0 for the visitors.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his decision to let Odegaard take the penalty, Saka said: "It was nice. Martin is a top player, he's been playing so good since he came back. He wanted to take the penalty to score today. I'm more than happy to give him the ball because he always gives me the ball. We have a good connection so let's just keep this form going."

Odegaard’s influence since returning from injury has been undeniable. His creativity, vision, and ability to control the game have been crucial for Arsenal’s success with the Gunners netting an impressive 14 goals in just four games since his return. Against West Ham, the captain showcased his trademark flair, delivering incisive passes, creating chances, and leading by example which made him the star of the show.

With Manchester United next on their schedule, Arteta’s side will be looking to maintain their momentum and continue their fine run of form when they host the Red Devils at Emirates on Wednesday.
