    WHAT HAPPENED?

Fernandes has arguably been Manchester United's best and most consistent player since his move to Old Trafford in January 2020. The 30-year-old was nominated as the Red Devils' captain last season, and Fernandes has now surpassed club legend Beckham in the all-time top goalscorer's list with 86 goals for the 20-time Premier League champions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Fernandes surpassed Beckham's tally of 85 goals for United with a stunning first-time strike after Alejandro Garnacho left Myles Lewis-Skelly on the ground and found the Portuguese midfielder in acres of space. The United captain then unleashed a pinpoint shot on the half-volley that flew past helpless Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya to give United the lead at the Emirates.

    DID YOU KNOW?

Since joining Manchester United, Fernandes has found the back of the net on 86 occasions in all competitions and has also racked up 77 assists in 261 appearances. In the current Red Devils squad, only Marcus Rashford has scored more goals for United, with 126 strikes to his name.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR FERNANDES?

The Manchester United captain stepped up to the plate yet again in the penalty shootout against Arsenal and led from the front to score the first spot-kick. The Red Devils eventually won the shootout 5-3 to oust the Gunners and advance into the fourth round of the FA Cup.
