  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Things are looking up for Manchester United with the arrival of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach but that has not stopped some from finding a way to criticise the club and its players. Neil Ruddock is the latest ex-player to have a dig at the Red Devils, in particular captain Bruno Fernandes, who he has labelled as a flop for some very personal reasons.

    WHAT RUDDOCK SAID

Speaking to 10bet, Ruddock said: "The one player I would seriously like to mention is Bruno Fernandes. I could have picked any of his teammates from Manchester United for my flop of the season so far, but I’m going to go with the captain. I don’t like him. He’s annoying. He annoys me. He's always moaning, chucking his hands up in the air and then, you know, everything. Nothing's ever his fault. He doesn’t behave like a captain. He’s not following in the footsteps of Manchester United captains with the way he wears the armband. Behave yourself and get on with it, Bruno."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ruddock is entitled to his opinion, but Fernandes is the least of Manchester United's problems. The Portugal international has five goal contributions in 12 Premier League matches so far in 2024-25 and will be tasked with leading his side through their transition under Amorim. Although he can throw a strop on the pitch sometimes, he is also capable of producing moments of magic and has been doing so for multiple seasons.

    WHAT NEXT?

Manchester United fans have had to wait for their first win under Amorim after drawing 1-1 to Ipswich last weekend. But a home match against Bodo/Glimt is the perfect opportunity to get up and running under their new boss.
