WHAT HAPPENED?
Due to Gavi's long-term injury, Pedri's constant fitness issues and Oriol Romeu's disappointing form, Xavi Hernandez has requested the club sign another midfielder in the form of Garcia. However, as per The Athletic, the deal is going to be a very difficult one to complete due to Barca's ever-present financial troubles.

THE EXPLANATION
The report suggests that Barca and their coaching staff are very impressed by Garcia's performances this season, but Girona are not looking to sell the 26-year-old or reach a deal with their fellow Catalans. Barca are reportedly interested in a deal that will see Romeu go the other way but Girona have rejected that approach and will only let the player go if Joan Laporta and Co. reach the player's €20million (£17.3m/$21.8m) release clause.

WHAT GIRONA SAID

WHAT NEXT FOR BARCA?
Barca may have to look elsewhere if they do want a midfielder in January. Xavi's side return to action later today, January 4, when they take on Las Palmas as they look to keep up with Real Madrid and Girona who claimed victories on Wednesday.
