    WHAT HAPPENED?

According to The Sun, the Gunners are keeping tabs on Espanyol full-back Omar Hilali, who is said to have a £12.5 million ($16m) release clause. The 21-year-old, who can also play as a winger, is also being looked at by Barcelona.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Right-back has, at times, been a troublesome position for Arsenal this season, with first-choice option Ben White missing a big chunk of the season through injury. Midfielder Thomas Partey has often filled in for the 27-year-old but having more strength in depth there may not be a bad idea.

Morocco Under-23 international Hilali has a contract that runs until 2027 at Espanyol. The report adds the youngster leads La Liga for successful tackles resulting in ball recoveries this season - a total of 63.

Before Arsenal can think about bidding for Hilali, Mikel Arteta's team take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
