Arsenal complete WORLD-RECORD deal to sign Olivia Smith from Liverpool as trailblazing striker becomes first female £1m player

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Smith on a long-term contract from Liverpool. The deal, reported to be worth £1 million, marks a world-record transfer fee in women’s football. The Gunners have also confirmed that Smith will wear the No.15 shirt for Renee Slegers' side, with the transfer pending final regulatory clearance.

Speaking to Arsenal's club media, Smith said: “It’s a privilege and an honour to sign for Arsenal. It’s my dream to compete for the biggest titles here in England and in Europe and I’m excited to get started and contribute to doing that here with Arsenal. The atmosphere the supporters create at Emirates Stadium is incredible and I can’t wait to have that behind me now.”

Speaking at Smith's unveiling, the Arsenal head coach said: "Olivia is an exciting young player and we believe she can make a big contribution here at Arsenal. Smith began her career in Canada and rose quickly through the ranks, making her senior debut at just 15. She enjoyed standout seasons at Sporting before her €250,000 (£212,000) move to Liverpool last summer. Her arrival at Arsenal crowns a rapid rise that’s seen her become one of the world’s top young talents.

The 20-year-old will join her new Arsenal teammates for pre-season training ahead of the 2025/26 WSL campaign. Gunners fans will get their first look at their side's new No.15 when the North Londoners return to action next month.
