  • WHAT HAPPENED?

England have announced that the Newcastle left-winger has returned to Newcastle after getting injured in their World Cup qualifier at Wembley on Friday night. Gordon would have been keen to make his mark on the England squad under new boss Thomas Tuchel, but will have to return to his club to impress ahead of the next international break. The Magpies and England faithful will be fearful of a more serious injury after Tuchel had been concerned by the injury after the game.

  • WHAT TUCHEL SAID

After the game, Tuchel said: "He looks injured. First of all I thought it's his stomach, but it's his hip and it does not look good. It's a bit worrying, yeah."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

England have not announced plans to call up a replacement for Gordon so Tuchel will have to rely on his current squad options for a replacement. Rashford started on the left-wing against Albania and could be in-line for yet another start. Other options could include Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Rogers or Eberechi Eze - although none of which are natural left-sided forwards.

  • WHAT NEXT FOR GORDON?

Gordon will return to Newcastle for assessment and treatment on his hip injury. It will be a nervous wait for the Newcastle fans, likely still revelling in their League Cup victory, to see when their star man will return. The Magpies are vying for Champions League football but will need to pick up their results in the Premier League first.
