Another Las Vegas party for Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney? Arthur Okonkwo makes bold Wrexham promotion claim after picking up four points from two games in League One

The Red Dragons have enjoyed all-expenses-paid trips to Sin City in each of the last two summers, with Phil Parkinson overseeing a meteoric rise from the National League and into the third tier of English football. Hollywood co-owners with deep pockets have helped to make that journey possible.

More money has been spent on being competitive in League One, with four points taken from the club’s opening two games. Asked if history could be made in a third successive step up the EFL ladder, Okonkwo has said: “The manager has brought in really good players. We are going to go for promotion this season definitely. We are not going to stand back and try to stay in the league. We want to go for it as a team and results like [a 0-0 draw at Bolton] help.”

Wrexham held their own against 2023-24 League One play-off finalists Bolton, with Okonkwo starring between the sticks. The highly-rated goalkeeper added on grinding out results on the road: “We knew it would be difficult playing against a good team, but I think we were good defensively and created good chances in the second half. It’s not going to be an easy league. But we are churning results out game by game. It’s a great start. We just have to keep going now because it’s a long season.”

Parkinson’s side saw off Wycombe 3-2 in their 2024-25 season opener. They did come unstuck at Sheffield United in the first round of the Carabao Cup, but remain unbeaten in League One and have another big test to overcome when welcoming Reading to SToK Racecourse on Saturday.
