WHAT HAPPENED?
The English striker just can't stop scoring for Bordeaux in the Championnat National 2. The 35-year-old scored a brace on his Bordeaux debut against Voltigeurs de Châteaubriant and has now scored another two goals to inspire his side to their first win of the league campaign over Olympique Saumur.
AFPTHE BIGGER PICTURE
Bordeaux, who were once a powerhouse in Ligue 1, filed for bankruptcy in the summer. Their financial troubles came after a failed takeover attempt by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owners of Liverpool, which left the club in a dire situation. Placed in financial administration, Bordeaux were forced to release all of their players and rebuild from scratch, making room for new signings like Carroll.
DID YOU KNOW?
Before joining Bordeaux, Carroll had been playing for Ligue 2 side Amiens. His move to the French fourth-tier club came as a surprise to many, but it was a critical decision for Bordeaux, who desperately needed experienced players to guide their resurgence. Sporting director John Williams played a key role in persuading Carroll to join the team on a free transfer, believing that the veteran striker could make a significant impact in their rebuilding phase. Caroll has openly admitted the move is "costing him money."

With six points from four matches, Bordeaux are slowly finding their rhythm in the Championnat National 2. Carroll’s contributions have been vital, and the team are hopeful that they can build on their newfound momentum when they return to action after the international break. Bordeaux’s next fixture, a clash with Avranches on October 19, will be a chance for the team to continue their upward trajectory.
