A 72-year-old Brighton supporter tragically passes away after falling unwell outside the Amex Stadium following the match against Aston Villa

Brighton have released an official statement confirming that a supporter died shortly after the club secured a 4-0 victory against Aston Villa on Sunday. The 72-year-old man collapsed in the coach park as he was leaving the Amex Stadium to travel home.

According to the club's announcement, emergency personnel rushed to the scene to provide immediate medical assistance. The tragic news overshadowed the celebratory atmosphere that followed the impressive opening-day triumph, which placed Brighton at the top of the Premier League table. Medical professionals spent an extended period attempting to resuscitate the individual before he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

In an official club statement, Brighton outlined the efforts made by on-site medical staff and emergency responders to save the supporter's life.

The statement read: "Following today’s game against Aston Villa, sadly a 72-year-old male Brighton & Hove Albion supporter passed away after the match. The gentleman took unwell as he was leaving the stadium to board a supporters’ club bus in the coach park. Despite the best efforts of emergency services and club staff, the medical team were unable to save him. South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics, St John’s Ambulance, Sussex Police, MB Medical Solutions, the club’s crowd doctor and our stewards worked together to ensure the individual was given the best possible care, including prolonged CPR on the scene."

Paul Barber, the chief executive and deputy chairman of Brighton, shared his profound sadness regarding the tragic event. Barber highlighted the sudden and heartbreaking nature of the incident, which occurred just as fans were concluding their matchday experience.

He stated: "What should have been an ordinary and happy journey home ended in heartbreaking circumstances, and we are all shocked and saddened by the loss of one of our supporters. We extend our sincere condolences to the gentleman’s family and friends."
