The Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers will square off Monday afternoon at Wrigley Field, opening a five-game set with first pitch scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET.

Chicago enters the series at 70-53 after edging out Pittsburgh in two of three over the weekend. The Cubs dropped the opener 3-2 but bounced back with 3-1 and 4-3 victories, the latter coming in dramatic fashion. Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, the Cubs scratched across the final two runs and held on the rest of the way. 

The Brewers, meanwhile, bring a 78-45 record into Chicago after taking two of three in Cincinnati. Milwaukee slugged their way to 10-8 and 6-5 wins before letting a late lead slip away in the finale. Up 2-1 in the ninth, they couldn’t close the door and fell in extras.

On the season, Chicago’s pitching staff has been steady, posting a 3.82 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and holding opponents to a .243 average. Offensively, they’ve plated 614 runs with a team average of .251 and a .321 OBP. Seiya Suzuki has been the big bat, leading the team with 27 homers and 86 RBIs, while Pete Crow-Armstrong has matched him in home run production with 27 and added 79 RBIs of his own. Rookie right-hander Cade Horton is slated to start Monday’s opener, carrying a 7-3 record with a 3.07 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 85 innings. Jameson Taillon, fresh off the injured list, is in line to take the ball for Game 2.

Ace Freddy Peralta will get the nod in Game 1, sporting a 14-5 record with a sparkling 2.90 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 136.2 innings. Chad Patrick is expected to be recalled from the minors to start Game 2.
