Man Utd-linked Pochettino ‘knows what he wants to do’ as Ardiles admits to offers being tabled

Mauricio Pochettino continues to be linked with a role at Manchester United and Ossie Ardiles claims his fellow Argentine “knows what he wants to do” when it comes to a next managerial move.

A highly-rated coach has been out of work since severing ties with Tottenham in November 2019.

Considerable success had been enjoyed in English football to that point with Southampton and Spurs.

Pochettino’s stock has risen considerably on the back of those spells, allowing him to come into contention for the most prestigious of posts.

It has been suggested that United, who have mulled over an approach in the past, will turn to the South American if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is relieved of his duties at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils may have to move quickly if that is part of their grand plan, with Pochettino already seeing plenty of offers tabled.

None of those have been accepted as yet, but Ardiles believes a return to the dugout will soon be made.

The Spurs legend told the Evening Standard of his compatriot: “He has had a few offers, but for one reason or another it’s not happened.

“He’s just waiting and he’s in a very good position, he can more or less choose where to go.”

Ardiles added: “He knows exactly what he wants to do.

“Football is his life, so he’s been watching everything and he likes to talk about football.

“He’ll take his time and, before long, he’ll be working again.”

Pochettino has opened himself up to approaches from interested parties across Europe, with the 48-year-old eager to step back onto the touchline after enjoying a well-deserved break.

He has told Sky Sports: “I was always ready to be involved in the game again. I love football. It’s my passion, not my job.

“It’s not a stress when you are working. It’s not a stress to go to the training ground. It’s not a stress to prepare for a game. It’s not a stress to compete… look, my hair is still getting longer and longer!

“I am looking forward to being involved in the game again, I love the game. It’s difficult; we are inside, we are working, we are doing things but it is not the same thing to be involved every day, to share it with your players, your staff and the club. You miss that.”
