Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says midfielder Yaya Toure is “like an amateur” because he loves to play football.
The midfielder’s career at the Etihad Stadium appeared to be over this season after he was left out of the club’s Champions League squad and his agent Dimitri Seluk claimed Guardiola has humiliated the Ivorian.
The City boss responded by insisting he would not play Toure until Seluk issued an apology, which subsequently arrived, with the 33-year-old returning to the team in November against Crystal Palace, scoring twice.
Toure has since been added to City’s Champions League squad and has gone on to make 15 appearances this season, and Guardiola has praised the player ahead of Sunday’s clash with Swansea City.
“Yaya’s quality is difficult to find today,” he told reporters. “He loves to play - he’s like an amateur. I love this. He is really fit, perfect weight."
Guardiola also says he is expecting a tough test against Paul Clement’s side, who are just two points off the drop zone but have won their last two games.
“I am really impressed with Swansea. I am trying to find ways we can attack them and I can’t find it! It’s so complicated,” he added.
“They are in a good moment. They won at Anfield and against Southampton - good teams. It will be really, really tough."
