Wimbledon breaks with tradition to allow players to pay tribute to Diogo Jota after Liverpool star's tragic death

Jota passed away on Thursday, as did his brother, Andre, Spanish authorities have confirmed, after a horrific accident that saw their Lamborghini sustain a tyre blowout and leave the road before catching fire. Tributes have poured in from across the sporting world and Wimbledon have relaxed their usually strict dress code to allow players to pay their respects should they wish to.

Wimbledon's dress code requires players to wear white, but they will be allowed to don black armbands for their upcoming games should they so wish. UEFA have already announced that there will be a minute's silence before Thursday and Friday's Women's European Championship games.

Portuguese tennis player Francisco Cabral has confirmed he will wear a black armband in his next match, after defeating Jamie Murray.

He said: "I have seen the very sad news.

"The guy is a big name, not just in Portugal but in the world. He was a great human being with a nice family and three kids. My best wishes to them all. For his family, it is very tough to recover from that...

"I couldn't get one [an armband] in time today, but I want to in the next one."

The highlight of the upcoming Wimbledon schedule sees British number one Jack Draper play Marin Cilic on centre court.
