    WHAT HAPPENED?

Newcastle looked set to record home and away wins over PSG in the group stages of the Champions League after Alexander Isak had put the visitors 1-0 up. However, there was late drama when PSG were awarded a penalty after a VAR check for a handball by Tino Livramento. The ball came off the defender's chest before hitting his arm but still resulted in a spot-kick. Mbappe made no mistake from 12 yards, converting the kick to rescue a point for PSG.

  • WHAT ALEXANDER ISAK SAID ABOUT THE PENALTY

"My first reaction was it wasn't [a penalty]. It seemed cheap. I haven't seen a replay. Hopefully it was a penalty. We have to trust the referees," he told TNT Sports after the game.

"We are very proud of the team. It's not an easy place to come. They haven't lost for some time here. We almost got the win. It is unfortunate. We always want to win, but this point will be important. We have it all to play for."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The results means Newcastle finish the day down in third place in the group and their destiny is now out of their own hands. Eddie Howe's side must beat AC Milan in their final group game and hope Paris St-Germain don't win against Dortmund in the final round of fixtures if they are to progress.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NEWCASTLE?

Newcastle go on to play Manchester United, Everton and Tottenham in the Premier League before their final group-stage fixture at home to Milan. Howe's side drew 0-0 back in September at San Siro when the sides last met but know they have to win at St James' Park to stand any chance of progressing.
