The Portuguese forward shocked his mum when jetting in from Saudi Arabia to join her for celebrations in Madeira that accompanied her turning 69 on New Year’s Eve. Maria Dolores Aveiro was moved to tears when her son presented her with a brand new Porsche Cayenne.

That is not the only gift Ronaldo handed out on the night, with Brazilian performer Santana also receiving a late Christmas present. He was handed a Rolex watch by CR7 that is worth £65,000. He performed at the party organised for Ronaldo’s mother at the Savoy Palace in Madeira as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner enjoys a mid-season break.

Santana was stunned to receive his designer gift – with Ronaldo a big fan of expensive watches – and said when taking ownership of a notable memento from the biggest of football icons: “You didn’t do that, no. For God’s sake, man. You know this is my first, right? My first Rolex. What moment! From the hands of man.”

Ronaldo has spent time in Portugal and the Middle East since seeing domestic action shut down at Al-Nassr, with his next outing set to deliver a reunion with eternal rival Lionel Messi. He will line up against the Argentine great when MLS side Inter Miami are faced at the Riyadh Cup on February 1.
