From Terminator Haaland to 'Patman' Evra: The best costumes as football stars go all out for Halloween 🎃

Halloween is here and that means a few very important things.

Firstly, the winter ball is out. You know the one. The clocks are back and the yellow ball is flying around the pitches again. As it should. How about that for World Cup fever?

More importantly, Halloween means that we're officially on the road to the World Cup, if we were to put things into WWE Road to WrestleMania perspective.

But instead of letting the holiday pass by without a trick or a treat, a handful of footballers got into the spirit of the occasion and pulled out the good, the bad and the ugly of fancy dress. Let's take a look.

  • Jese Rodriguez

It's not bad, but it's certainly not good from Jese Rodriguez and his wife.

We'll refrain from the more explicit analogies as to what they they've actually achieved. All that needs to be said is that his singular season spent in Stoke would've been a lot more frightening than this.

  • Mario Gotze

Okay, sure, Gotze loses some points for not putting together a 'scary' outfit, but who does anymore?

Halloween is about fun and creativity. This ticks both boxes, as well as the wholesome one. Super Mario (get it?) and his son. Brilliant.

  • Lotte Wubben-Moy

Nothing to see here, folks. Just an English footballing, European Championship-winning icon dressing up as a bonafide musical icon.

The crossover we didn't know we needed. Good effort, Lotte. We like it a lot. Not sure how Conor McGregor ties into this alternate reality, but we don't need the answers right now.

  • Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis

Chelsea's Kerr and Gotham FC's Mewis looked the part as they linked up with the rest of the Chelsea squad this weekend, in classic outfits.

A little textbook, sure, but they make it work to its absolute limit. Very classy stuff. Stern poses too. Well done.

  • Erling Haaland

We can only apologise if this was actually all your doing, Erling, but if it's what we suspect, your media team need a pay rise. Sensational stuff, here.

A shame we didn't get to see the big goalscoring cyborg himself dressed up in his lasagne-loving, goal getting robotic form in the flesh, but this graphic deserves its flowers. Bonus points for the pun, too.

Now please stop being so good at football. Sincerely, everyone who isn't a Manchester City fan.

  • Casemiro

Ah Casemiro, a man of culture. Loves classic, feel-good horror and has got his family in on it, too.

Tell him his costume lacks effort and he'll hack you to bits. Nice variation all around from the group.

  • Manchester United Women

A team effort from Marc Skinner's side, who are impressing on and off the pitch this season.

After maintaining their perfect start in the Women's Super League, United players celebrated as a team by all getting into the Halloween spirit. Spongebob cohort, some Peaky Blinders, some boxers, and a dart board.

Leah Galton takes top prize, though, for her incredible commitment to the devil look.

  • Kalvin Phillips

A shame we didn't get more shots of Phillips in his costume or even a professional makeup artist in to truly let him loose around the Etihad Campus, but this is still brilliant.

Phillips should be injured more often if it guarantees such golden content. Props to Scott Carson for completely no-selling it, though, like the veteran he is. Seen it all. Had enough.

  • Sergio Ramos

Say whatever you like, but Ramos certainly doesn't do things by half measures - apart from haircuts, from time to time.

Maximum effort put into his dress up alongside his partner, and we love it. Fun-loving, clown impersonating, Halloween enthusiast by day, legendary defender by night.

  • Patrice Evra

Uncle Pat has absolutely nailed it. When he's not messing around with raw chicken, he can really find his stride online.

The Patman? Genius. The Patmobile that he's made himself and sat on? Even better. The video to go with it all? Monumental effort. Hats off to Evra, he's smashed it out of the park.

Just please don't go back to the chicken antics, Patrice.

  • Fede Valverde

The Joker and Harley Quinn with a mini-Batman in tow, how could we not love this?

Valverde and his family really embraced the DC/Halloween spirit with this effort, coming up with an inventive clothing change video.

It could also be argued that the Madrid star's take on Gotham's Prince of Crime is more menacing than Jared Leto - whose turn in Suicide Squad still gives us nightmares for all the wrong reasons.
