Real Madrid told they need Erling Haaland more than Kylian Mbappe - despite PSG superstar being the 'better footballer'

Madrid continue to be linked with a move for PSG superstar Mbappe but the France international has yet to make a decision on his future. It has been reported that Real Madrid could move for Haaland if they miss out on Mbappe, with former Dortmund team-mate Jude Bellingham said to be in touch with the City star. Capello says that Mbappe is the better all-round player, but has explained why Haaland is needed more at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Italian told Marca: "Mbappe is not a center forward, he likes to play more on the wing. Madrid already has Vinicius, but Mbappe is Mbappe! If Madrid is going to sign, they have to ask themselves if they have a center forward now. And they don't have one. They need that more. But if you are going to look at technical quality, who is the better footballer, Mbappe is above Haaland."

Madrid have been left without a star striker this season after waving goodbye to Karim Benzema. Former striker Joselu has returned to the club on a season-long loan but has only scored five La Liga goals so far this season. Los Blancos do have the option to make the deal permanent but would surely much rather bring in a top talent such Mbappe or Haaland to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window.

Los Blancos are being made to wait for a decision on Mbappe. The striker is not expected to decide his future until next month. The Spanish giants have already tried to sign Haaland, missing out in 2022, but could try again particularly after seeing him fire City to the treble last season. Haaland is contracted to the Cityzens until 2027 and reportedly has a release clause that can be trigged by teams outside the Premier League in the summer.
