Parkinson’s dressing room rants have figured prominently on the Red Dragons’ award-winning ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary series, with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney billing the sweary team talks as “passion”.

There has not been much for Parkinson to get upset about during his tenure in North Wales, with his side chasing down a third successive promotion, but he can lose his cool and turn the air blue at times. Individuals are rarely singled out, but everyone in the Wrexham camp accepts that the odd rollicking could come their way.

Wing wizard Barnett told The Athletic when asked if he has been on the receiving end of a blast from the Parkinson hairdryer: “I have a few times, yes. It’s not great and I’m hoping to avoid it for the rest of the season, but it’s all done so honestly that you take it. What he’s saying is said with love. He’s not being mean to you, he just wants the best for you and the team.”

Barnett added on the emotion that Parkinson brings to his role at SToK Racecourse, and how that rubs off on those around him: “I know people will have seen him shouting on the documentary and, of course, that does happen. But he then speaks to you individually and explains calmly what he wants. The bottom line is if you go out there and make him happy, then you’re happy.”

Parkinson had plenty to cheer in his latest outing as Wrexham boss, as they grabbed a dramatic winner against Peterborough in what was his 1,000th game as a manager. That result has kept the Red Dragons in the hunt for a top-two finish and automatic promotion out of League One.
